How To Expose Your Fear!

Expose your fear!

On the other side of fear is everything you want and desire.

Did you know that fear is the number one emotion that keep entrepreneurs from chasing their dreams? Being a professional woman in business for so many years, one of the habits I brought into my life and kept repeating was holding onto fears about the things that could happen as a small business owner. By holding onto the fear, stuffing it, and remaining silent, you become extremely alone and isolated because of the fear taking over. Have you ever experienced fear holding you back in your life? After many years I found that by exposing your fear you realize on the other side of fear is everything you want and desire.

Let’s face it, being a business owner or working for a business, you see the ups and downs of the economy, world affairs and life in general. Often times, I would get caught up in the fear and let the thoughts start spiraling. "It has been a slower month, will I be able to make payroll”? “What about the yellow page advertising, will I have to push that off”, but then will it make business even slower? “What will I say if someone asks me how business is”?

All of these nagging chatters that you silently hear in your ear are all fear based. One of the best ways to get a hold of this fear based chatter for me is to do the complete opposite of what I was doing. Normally, I would hear the chatter, be consumed by the fear and get silent. Then the silence turned into being alone. Then the alone turned into telling myself huge stories about how my business was failing and how I would never be able to turn it around? It was a daily never ending story that would keep getting bigger and bigger until I finally felt like I was inside of a cage with no way out.

This is not a fun place to be for any one, especially a business owner. This continued until I finally had the courage to speak up and talk to other owners about the things I was experiencing. There is something about the human connection when someone can relate to what you are saying, it breaks down a lot of fear based walls. The connection makes you feel like there is hope, you are not alone and it empowers you to get out of your fear based box and get creative!

I encourage you to make a list of a few fears you keep telling yourself and reach out to a like minded business owner or person in your profession and talk through your thoughts. You never know what door you may be opening for yourself or inspiring for someone else!
